Staten Islanders: You have the right to select the shop that repairs your auto glass

Is your car window broken and you have glass insurance? Try calling your insurance company to arrange service. You will be “steered” to using Safelite even though you are entitled to pick the auto glass shop of your choice.

$1+ billion, foreign-owned auto glass giant Safelite has partnered with major insurance providers including Allstate, Nationwide, GEICO, and State Farm. When a customer calls an insurance company to put in a glass claim, the person is most likely routed to Safelite scheduling reps. Customers might not even realize they are no longer talking to the insurance company.

I opened Richmond Auto Glass in 1987. I learned the business from my father,  who also owned an auto glass shop on Staten Island. My father taught me the importance of providing quality services--going the extra mile to do the job right. I personally trained my auto glass technicians, and they now have the same commitment to quality.

Our focus on quality workmanship combined with competitive pricing allowed us to build a large base of loyal customers who have been coming to us for years. But we’ve lost virtually all of our insurance business.

I want to continue serving Staten Islanders and get the word out that we have the right to choose a local auto glass shop. Staten Islanders--you have options!

In my opinion, the best option is to choose local. Safelite doesn’t even have a shop on Staten Island--if you need to go to the shop for service, you’re forced to drive to Brooklyn.
